NFL Players Vote To Approve New CBA: Season Set For 17 Games

NFL players voted to approve the new proposed collective bargaining agreement on Sunday morning, issuing in a new era of the league and keeping peace among the labor unions until at least 2030.

The vote passed 1019-959, with a majority required to approve the deal.

Chief among the changes in the new CBA is the league shifting to a 17-game schedule and the playoffs expanding from 12 to 14 teams. The changes will go into effect as early as 2021.

"We are pleased that the players have voted to ratify the proposed new CBA, which will provide substantial benefits to all current and retired players, increase jobs, ensure continued progress on player safety, and give our fans more and better football," Commissioner Roger Goodell said in a statement Sunday morning.

The new agreement, which was already approved by league owners, also includes a variety of financial, disciplinary and roster changes.
