PEBBLE BEACH, CA — The U.S. Open got underway Thursday at the iconic Pebble Beach Golf Links in balmy northern California and the resurgent Tiger Woods teed off at 2:09 p.m. Pacific Time (that's 5:09 p.m. for all the East Coasters), as he hopes to continue his remarkable comeback and win the tournament for the fourth time.

The tournament got underway bright and early, with Rickie Fowler setting the pace, shooting a stellar 66 on the day and finishing at a sparkling -5. Rory McIlroy, one of the early favorites, was also in the hunt after shooting a -3.

Woods teed off on the first hole in a grouping with Jordan Spieth and Justin Rose. You can watch him live here. Click here to see the live leaderboard.

Heading into the tournament, oddsmakers were bullish on Brooks Koepka's chances to win the tournament last week. But the world's current No. 1 ranked golfer was overtaken this week by second-ranked golfer Dustin Johnson, according to Oddschecker.com. Bookmakers gave Johnson about an 11 percent chance to win the U.S. Open, with Rory McIlroy and Koepka hot on his heels at about 10 percent a piece.

Sunny skies should shine over the oceanfront course all through the tournament, with some fog possible before 11 a.m. Thursday and Friday, according to the National Weather Service. The forecast called for temperatures in the 50s and 60s with slight winds of up to 11 mph over the first two rounds.

Odds

Despite Koepka having won the tournament in the last two years, Dustin Johnson — who won the tournament in 2016 — was the favorite Wednesday to win it, with oddsmakers giving him about an 11 percent chance. McIlroy, Koepka, Woods and Patrick Cantlay rounded out the top five. Gamblers will see decent on key players including Rickie Fowler, Justin Thomas and Francesco Molinari.

Oddschecker spokesman Pete Watt told Patch last week early gamblers seemed to like Koepka's odds, as he accounted for about 12 percent of bets.

"Koepka will arrive in red-hot form, but will need to be at the top of his game and enjoy the rub of the green to win another Major," said Watt.

He also noted Xander Schauffele was receiving a disproportionate amount of bets thrown his way and that Woods will surely try to recapture the magic he found at The Masters earlier this year.

"There will be frustration from Woods that he couldn’t live up to the hype following his win at Augusta, and Tiger will be out to prove a point," he said.

Here are the implied odds for the top golfers:

  • Dustin Johnson, 11.1 percent
  • Rory McIlroy, 10 percent
  • Brooks Koepka, 10 percent
  • Tiger Woods, 7.7 percent
  • Patrick Cantlay, 5.3 percent
  • Jordan Spieth, 4.8 percent
  • Justin Rose, 3.4 percent
  • Xander Schauffele, 3.4 percent
  • Rickie Fowler, 3.4 percent
  • Justin Thomas, 3.2 percent
  • Jon Rahm, 3.2 percent
  • Adam Scott, 2.9 percent
  • Hideki Matsuyama, 2.8 percent
  • Jason Day, 2.8 percent
  • Tommy Fleetwood, 2.8 percent
  • Francesco Molinari, 2.4 percent
