Cameron Run Regional Park employee arrested for allegedly robbing concession stand (alxnow.com) — A 15-year-old Alexandria employee at Cameron Run Regional Park's batting cages concession stand has been arrested after police say he helped rob the stand of more than $200 on August 1. According to a search warrant, security footage and his work shift timing linked him to the masked robbery, while a second suspect seen fleeing on a Lime scooter has not been arrested.
   

2. Alexandria's hotel revenue swung from down 9.9% to up 3% in five months (alexandriabrief.com) — Hotel revenue in Alexandria has rebounded from a 9.9% year-over-year decline in January to a 3% gain by June, thanks to major events and a new tourism campaign. Visit Alexandria told City Council that longer visitor stays and World Cup-related activities boosted local hotels, restaurants, and shops, offering encouraging news for the city's budget and business community.
   

3. ACPS Dedicates Jean B. Reid Media Center, Honoring a Teacher Who Changed How Alexandria Children Learned to Read (thezebra.org) — Alexandria City Public Schools has dedicated the new Jean B. Reid Media Center at Naomi L. Brooks Elementary, honoring a longtime reading specialist who transformed how local children learned to read. To mark the 25th anniversary, volunteers will honor the day through service at Alexandria National Cemetery on Saturday, and the city will hold a remembrance ceremony Friday at police headquarters, offering space for reflection and healing.

Kay-Wyatt has taken state and consulting roles since leaving Alexandria schools (alexandriabrief.com) — Alexandria residents are learning that former ACPS superintendent Melanie Kay-Wyatt has taken new roles with the Virginia Department of Education and national consulting firm ILO Group while concluding her tenure here. The School Board accelerated her resignation to August, appointed Grace Taylor as acting superintendent, and is now conducting a confidential national search for a permanent leader, with Taylor not a candidate.
