Little Theatre of Alexandria Brings Ghostly Comedy to Old Town

Old Town's 92-year old community theater is getting a little haunted. The Little Theatre of Alexandria opens Noël Coward's Blithe Spirit on August 29, running through September 19, 2026.

The play follows novelist Charles Condomine, who invites the eccentric medium Madame Arcati to his home for a séance — hoping for material for his next book. Instead, Arcati accidentally conjures the ghost of his late first wife, Elvira, who has no plans to leave quietly. As Elvira sets out to reclaim her place in Charles's life, his current wife, Ruth, is left to contend with a rival she can't even see. The result is one of Coward's sharpest and funniest plays, full of quick wit and comic chaos.

Blithe Spirit is directed by Ward Kay, produced by Meredith Ludwig and performed by Caroline J. Berger (Edith), Sarah Cusenza (Ruth Condomine), Liz Isbell (Child Voice Daphne), Eric Kennedy (Charles Condomine), Raeanna Nicole Larson (Mrs. Violet Bradman), Cameron McBride (Dr. George Bradman), Eleanore Tapscott (Madame Arcati), and Katie Weigl (Elvira).

Performances run Thursday through Saturday at 8 p.m., with Sunday matinees at 2 p.m., August 29 through September 19 at The Little Theatre of Alexandria, 600 Wolfe Street. Tickets are $26 (plus a $4 service charge) and available online.
