STILL WE RISE: A Broadway Cabaret to Celebrate America's 250th

The Little Theatre of Alexandria (LTA) invites audiences to celebrate a milestone in American history with Still We Rise: A Broadway Cabaret to Celebrate America's 250th, a new original work running June 12–21, 2026, at LTA's home at 600 Wolfe Street in Old Town Alexandria. Directed by Jasmine Jones in her LTA directing debut, this special production marks the nation's semiquincentennial with an evening of powerful Broadway music, storytelling, and community.

Structured as a three-act musical journey, Still We Rise traces America's story from its founding through its 250th year — and casts an eye toward what the future might hold. Drawing on beloved Broadway scores including songs from Hamilton, Les Misérables, Ragtime, Rent, and Suffs, the cabaret weaves together voices across generations, celebrating the diversity, resilience, and enduring spirit that define the American experience.

The production unfolds across three thematic acts. Act One, Love of Country – The Making of America, captures the hope, sacrifice, and passion that fueled this nation's founding. Act Two, Love of Freedom – The Fight for Our Rights, amplifies the voices of Americans who fought to make the nation's founding ideals a living reality for all. Act Three, Generational Love – Building a Better Future, calls on audiences to carry that legacy forward — planting seeds of kindness and community for the generations to come. Together, the three acts are united by a single guiding theme: Love Is Our Throughline.

“Directing Still We Rise has been an opportunity to explore what love looks like in an American context — love of country, love of freedom, and the generational love we owe to each other and to those who come after us,” said director Jasmine Jones. “This show doesn’t shy away from the full story of America, but it holds that story with care and believes in what we can build together. I’m honored to bring this work to the LTA stage for the first time and to share it with the Alexandria and DC area community.”

Jones brings a rich background in musical theatre performance and production to the project, with credits spanning leading roles at Dominion Stage, City of Fairfax Theatre Company, Rockville Musical Theatre, and LTA, where she previously performed in Bright Star.

“For more than 90 years, LTA has believed in the power of theatre to bring a community together around the stories that matter most. There is no better moment to celebrate that mission than America’s 250th anniversary,” said LTA President Eleanore Tapscott. “Jasmine Jones has crafted something truly special in Still We Rise, and we can’t wait to share it with our Alexandria community and beyond.”

Still We Rise will be performed with a cast of 12 accompanied by piano or small ensemble. The production is presented as a concert-style cabaret, emphasizing vocal performance and storytelling — a fitting format for an evening of reflection and celebration.
