• VDOT Lynchburg District Weekly Traffic Alert June 8-14, 2026 (virginia.gov) — Drivers in Appomattox County should prepare for significant changes on the Route 460 Appomattox Bypass, with westbound lanes reduced, speed limits cut to 45 mph, and key ramps at Routes 24 and 26 temporarily closed with signed detours. An automated speed enforcement system is active in the work zone, and the reconstruction project is expected to continue through December 2026, so plan extra travel time.
   

• Deputies confirm Lynchburg man, who escaped court, in custody (wdbj7.com) — Appomattox County deputies have taken into custody a 21-year-old Lynchburg man who fled a Lynchburg court hearing earlier in the week, and he is now being held at Blue Ridge Regional Jail. Lynchburg and Appomattox law enforcement agencies coordinated the search and arrest, with officials publicly thanking Appomattox County Sheriff Robby Richardson and his team for their role.
   

• State Fair of Virginia Awards Almost $42,000 in Youth Scholarships (rivercountrynews.com) — A young resident from Appomattox County, Savannah Jones, earned a $2,000 youth development scholarship through the State Fair of Virginia’s 4-H and FFA competitions. In total, 27 Virginia youths received nearly $42,000 in scholarships recognizing livestock, craft, and trade skills, with more funding available when the fair returns this fall.
