4 New Coronavirus Outbreaks Reported In Arlington
Virginia Department of Health confirmed four new outbreaks of COVID-19 in the Arlington Health District on Thursday.
ARLINGTON, VA — Virginia Department of Health reported four additional outbreaks of COVID-19, the illness associated with the new coronavirus, in the Arlington Health District on Thursday. This brings the total number of outbreaks in the county to 29.
There have been 21 outbreaks at long-term care facilities, four at a congregate setting, three in health care settings, and one at a college or a university. Three of the new cases were reported at long-term care facilities and the fourth was at a congregate setting. The total number of cases connected with an outbreak is 675. There have been 243 reported coronavirus cases in Arlington involving health care workers.
On Oct. 27, VDH reported its first COVID-10 outbreak at a college or university in Arlington. Marymount University confirmed an outbreak of the illness at its campus. VDH defines an outbreak as two or more cases that are connected.

VDH on Wednesday reported 1,594 new cases of the coronavirus statewide, lifting the seven-day average of daily cases to 1,524 from 1,462 reported Monday. That's the highest case average the state has seen since the start of the pandemic. A month ago on Oct. 11, the average was 973.
VDH confirmed 28 additional cases of COVID-19 Thursday in the Arlington Health District. That's down from the 37 new cases of COVID-19 reported on Wednesday. This brings the total number of cases in the county to 5,158.

Virginia health officials also reported no new deaths due to COVID-19 Wednesday in Arlington. The last new death was reported on Sunday. The total number of COVID-19-related deaths in the Arlington Health District now stands at 155.
A total of 552 people have been hospitalized in Arlington due to COVID-19.
There have been 198,027 total cases statewide, according to data reported by the Virginia Department of Health. In Virginia, there have been 3,758 coronavirus-related deaths to date. There have been a total of 13,339 hospitalized COVID-19 patients.
VDH reported Thursday that 91,617 COVID-19 tests have been taken in Arlington, with a 6.3 percent positivity rate. Statewide there have been 3,088,771 COVID-19 tests taken, with a 7.5 percent positivity rate, according to VDH.

Globally, more than 52.2 million people have been infected by COVID-19, and over 1.2 million people have died, Johns Hopkins University reported Thursday morning. In the United States, more than 10.4 million people have been infected and over 241,000 people have died from COVID-19.

Arlington residents should take the following actions to help prevent the spread of COVID-19:
- Avoid close contact with people who are sick.
- Wash hands with soap and water for at least 20 seconds. An alcohol-based hand sanitizer can be used if soap and water are not available.
- Avoid touching eyes, nose and mouth with unwashed hands.
- Cover your cough or sneeze with a tissue, then throw the tissue in the trash.
- Clean and disinfect frequently touched objects and surfaces.
