Coronavirus Cases, Hospitalizations Keep Climbing In Virginia

Virginia health officials on Wednesday reported 1,594 new cases of the coronavirus, lifting the seven-day average of daily cases to 1,524.

VIRGINIA — The Virginia Department of Health on Wednesday reported 1,594 new cases of the coronavirus, lifting the seven-day average of daily cases to 1,524 from 1,462 reported Monday.

That's the highest case average the state has seen since the start of the pandemic. A month ago on Oct. 11, the average was 973.

New cases by region on Wednesday include 442 in both the southwest and northern regions, 257 in both the central and northwest regions, and 196 in the eastern region.

The statewide seven-day positive average of PCR tests is 6.2 percent as of Nov. 7. Regional averages are 9.3 percent in the southwest region, 6.3 percent in the northern region, 5.5 percent in the central region, 5.2 percent in the eastern region, and 5.0 percent in the northwest region.

Statewide, 2,841,807 tests have been completed to date, an increase of 21,148 since Tuesday.

On Wednesday, the number of COVID-19 patients in hospitals stood at 1,265, and the seven-day average of patients is 1,119.9. A month ago on Oct. 11, the seven-day average for hospitalizations stood at 945.3.

Patients by region include 318 in the southwest region, 316 in the northern region, 257 in the central region, 215 in the eastern region, and 159 in the northwest region.

As of Wednesday, the 1,265 statewide hospitalizations include 106 patients on ventilators and 250 in the intensive care units, according to the Virginia Hospital & Healthcare Association. Ventilator use among all hospital patients stands at 27 percent, and ICU occupancy is at 81 percent occupancy. No hospitals are reporting difficulty obtaining personal protective equipment or other medical supplies in the next 72 hours.

  • Alexandria: 4,559 cases, 334 hospitalizations, 76 deaths; increase of 26 cases
  • Arlington County: 5,130 cases, 547 hospitalizations, 155 deaths; increase of 37 cases and one hospitalization
  • Fairfax County: 25,791 cases, 2,360 hospitalizations, 609 deaths; increase of 198 cases, six hospitalizations and two deaths
  • Fairfax City: 178 cases, 16 hospitalizations, eight deaths; increase of three cases
  • Falls Church: 82 cases, 14 hospitalizations, seven deaths; increase of four cases and one hospitalization
  • Loudoun County: 8,560 cases, 511 hospitalizations, 134 deaths; increase of 74 cases and three hospitalizations
  • Manassas: 2,116 cases, 133 hospitalizations, 28 deaths; increase of three cases
  • Manassas Park: 676 cases, 58 hospitalizations, eight deaths; increase of two cases
