Assault On Police Charge Filed Against Arlington Man
A 19-year-old man facing a destruction charge in Columbia Forest kicked a police officer several times during his arrest, authorities say.
ARLINGTON, VA — A 29-year-old Arlington man is facing an assault of police charge after being arrested for destruction of property early Monday evening in Columbia Forest, according to authorities.
Shortly after 5 p.m., an officer responding to an unrelated call for service was flagged down by a witness in a residential building in the 5100 block of 10th Street South.
"The officer subsequently made contact with the male suspect inside the building and it was determined he allegedly broke several of the building’s windows," according to the incident report. "The suspect was taken into custody and was treated and released by medics on scene for minor injuries."

The suspect, identified as Roberto Sales Hernandez, became irate and kicked an officer several times while in custody, according to the report. No injuries to the officer were reported.

Hernandez was arrested, charged with assault on police and destruction of property, and then was held without bond, ACPD says.
Hernandez was scheduled to be arraigned at 9 a.m. on Tuesday in Arlington General District Court and a preliminary hearing was set for 11:30 a.m. on April 28, according to court records.
If Hernandez is convicted on the assault on police charge, which is a Class 6 felony, he faces a potential sentence of one to five years in prison or up to 12 months in jail and/or a maximum fine of $2,500, under Virginia law.
