Huge Traffic Expected at Reagan National Airport

If you're traveling out of Reagan Airport this holiday season, make sure you give yourself lots of time.

ARLINGTON, VA — The holiday season is upon us, and people are preparing to head to Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport in droves in the coming days, so be prepared.

The Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority has issued a traffic alert to expect intense congestion at peak times through Jan. 4.

The traffic woes have already started, with the airport circle turning into a parking lot throughout this past week. Authorities are advising travelers to take the following steps to make sure they make their flight:

  • Ride Metrorail to and from the airport
  • Use the second airport exit from the George Washington Memorial Parkway coming south from Washington, D.C. This route provides more direct access to Terminal A and Economy parking.
  • Allow extra travel time to reach terminals, lots and garages
  • Avoid airport roads if the airport is not your destination

Congestion typically peaks from 7 to 9 a.m., and from 2 to 6 p.m.
