New COVID-19 Outbreak Reported In Arlington Health District
Virginia Department of Health confirmed the 15th outbreak of the new coronavirus at an Arlington long-term care facility.
ARLINGTON, VA — Virginia Department of Health confirmed Friday another outbreak of COVID-19, the illness associated with the new coronavirus, at a long-term care facility in the Arlington Health District. This is the 15th outbreak reported at a long-term care facility in Arlington. There have been two outbreaks at a congregate setting and three outbreaks in health care settings.
VDH also reported eight new cases related to an outbreak. This brings the total number of cases connected with an outbreak to 589. There have been 223 reported coronavirus cases in Arlington involving health care workers.
VDH reported 40 new cases Friday of COVID-19 in the Arlington Health District. That's up slightly from the 28 reported on Thursday. The total number of COVID-19 cases in Arlington stands at 4,318.

Virginia health officials also reported one new death due to COVID-19 Thursday in Arlington. The last new death was reported on Oct. 5. The total number of COVID-19-related deaths in the Arlington Health District is 153.
A total of 518 people have been hospitalized in Arlington due to COVID-19.

There have been 164,124 total cases statewide, according to data reported by the Virginia Department of Health. In Virginia, there have been 3,408 coronavirus-related deaths to date. There have been a total of 11,780 hospitalized COVID-19 patients.
VDH reported Friday that 75,339 COVID-19 tests have been taken in Arlington, with a 3.6 percent positivity rate. Statewide there have been 2,528,225 COVID-19 tests taken, with a 5.2 percent positivity rate, according to VDH.

Globally, more than 39 million people have been infected by COVID-19, and over 1 million people have died, Johns Hopkins University reported Friday morning. In the United States, more than 7.9 million people have been infected and over 217,000 people have died from COVID-19.

Arlington residents should take the following actions to help prevent the spread of COVID-19:
- Avoid close contact with people who are sick.
- Wash hands with soap and water for at least 20 seconds. An alcohol-based hand sanitizer can be used if soap and water are not available.
- Avoid touching eyes, nose and mouth with unwashed hands.
- Cover your cough or sneeze with a tissue, then throw the tissue in the trash.
- Clean and disinfect frequently touched objects and surfaces.
