NoVA's Average Of New Coronavirus Cases In 200 Range
Northern Virginia led the state in new cases on Sunday, but the average has remained steady in recent weeks.
VIRGINIA — An additional 894 coronavirus cases and 24 deaths were reported Sunday in Virginia. According to the Virginia Department of Health, cumulative cases stand at 112,966, and deaths are up to 2,467. There have been 9,176 hospitalizations to date.
The 7-day average of new cases, 897, is similar to the cases reported on Sunday. By region, there were 260 new cases in the northern region, 184 in the central region, 170 in the eastern region, 158 in the southwest region and 122 in the northwest region.
Northern Virginia's new cases included 116 cases in Fairfax County, the state's most populous jurisdiction. The 7-day average of cases in Northern Virginia has been in the 200 range since Aug. 7 after being in the upper 100s range since mid-June. However, the average is just a portion of the 685.3 peak average on May 31.

Four of the deaths reported Sunday happened in the northern region. Reports of deaths have fluctuated by day, so data on deaths by the date on the death certificate may be more insightful. Data is considered incomplete for the most recent weeks. So far, the most deaths happened on May 5, when 48 patients with a positive coronavirus test and three probable COVID-19 patients died. Probable patients had COVID-19 symptoms and a known exposure.
Current COVID-19 hospitalizations in Virginia stand at 1,155, an increase of one from Saturday. These hospitalizations include 376 in the eastern region, 261 in the northern region, 242 in the central region, 165 in the southwest region and 111 in the northwest region.

Per the Virginia Hospital & Healthcare Association, 130 COVID-19 patients are on ventilators and 251 are in intensive care units. Ventilator use among all hospital patients is 19 percent, and ICU occupancy is at 72 percent. The 2019 average for ICU occupancy in Virginia was 67 percent.
There have been 14,443 COVID-19 patients discharged from hospitals statewide.
The statewide positive rate of PCR tests remains at 6.5 percent. As of Sunday, 1,466,033 tests have been completed in Virginia, an increase of 12,362 from Saturday.
According to the latest VDH data on contact tracing, health officials have reached 86.8 percent of confirmed cases within 24 hours. There are 10,517 contacts of COVID-19 cases under public health monitoring, and 15.2 percent of contacts have not been reached to date.

- Alexandria: 3,257 cases, 292 hospitalizations, 61 deaths; increase of 19 cases
- Arlington County: 3,383 cases, 449 hospitalizations, 137 deaths; increase of 26 cases
- Fairfax County: 17,647 cases, 2,013 hospitalizations, 542 deaths; increase of 116 cases, seven hospitalizations and three deaths
- Fairfax City: 106 cases, 13 hospitalizations, seven deaths; no changes
- Falls Church: 64 cases, 10 hospitalizations, seven deaths; no changes
- Loudoun County: 5,712 cases, 366 hospitalizations, 115 deaths; increase of 28 cases and one hospitalization
- Manassas: 1,754 cases, 125 hospitalizations, 23 deaths; increase of seven cases
- Manassas Park: 552 cases, 52 hospitalizations, seven deaths; increase of one case
- Prince William County: 10,341 cases, 835 hospitalizations, 183 deaths; increase of 63 cases, two hospitalizations, and one death
- Fredericksburg: 451 cases, 47 hospitalizations, four deaths; increase of four cases
- Spotsylvania County: 1,701 cases, 108 hospitalizations, 37 deaths; increase of 10 cases, one hospitalization and one death
- Stafford County: 1,589 cases, 134 hospitalizations, 10 deaths; increase of 10 cases and two hospitalizations
