Patch Picks: Celebrating Saint Patrick's Day in Burke

The top places to celebrate Saint Patrick's Day in the Burke / Springfield area.

March 17, Saint Patrick's Day, is one of the busiest days for bars and restaurants. People everywhere will be sporting green attire, indulging in Irish food, and maybe enjoying a green beer or two. If you, too, are looking for a place to celebrate, look no further!

Of course we had to pick an Irish pub as our number one St. Patrick's Day spot! Named Bar of the Month in November 2007 by On Tap Magazine, Kate's is a great place to celebrate! Specializing in traditional pub fare and drinks, Kate's also offers live music! This Thursday will be no different, with Brook Yoder, Don Cobert, and Dave Berry performing.

If you are really looking to have a good time on St. Patrick's Day, Kilroy's is the place to be! They are having a "Keg and Eggs" event all day on Thursday, starting at 8am and going until 10pm. The first 50 people in the door will get a free t-shirt, and there will be "Spin the Wheel" specials every hour between 10 a.m. and 10 p.m. Kilroys knows how to celebrate St. Patrick's Day right, so come and join the party!

Located in Burke, in Burke Centre Shopping Center, Hopsfrog has been around for years. It is a favorite among locals, offering tasty food and delicious drinks. For the whole month of March, they have traditional Irish favorites on their menu. Stop by for some of Irish fare, and stay for a beer.

While Fast Eddie's probably isn't the first place you would think of for St. Patrick's Day, it is definitely a great place to hang out and let loose. If you are looking to go out but keep things low key, Eddie's is ideal. Thursday is Ladies' Night, which means there are great drink specials, and free pool from 8 to close! Thursday is also the day for Texas Hold 'Em Tournaments, so don't miss out!

Glory Days is one of the best bars in Burke! They serve delicious food and great drinks, and the staff is always awesome. After 9pm, you can enjoy $5 appetizers. They even offer $1.99 drafts all day, every day! You can't beat deals like those. Glory Days is also offering corned beef and cabbage, a staple for any lover of Irish food.

Auld Shebeen is having a special fixed price dinner on St. Patrick’s Day for $39.95, there are two seating times 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. call (703) 293-9600 to make a reservation. There will be Irish dancers and The Flying Cows of Ventry and Edsall Road will be performing Celtic tunes. It's a $10 cover after 3 p.m.

7. PJ Skidoos

PJ’s will be featuring a traditional Irish dinner special for the holiday during restaurant hours. There will be a bag pipe musician and lots of festive specials including green beer and green shooters

8. Brion’s Grill

D.C.’s best Grateful Dead tribute band, On The Bus will kick-off the party at 4 p.m. followed by local blues and rock musician Johnny Artis who will rock the house from 9 p.m. until close.
