• Thief steals Dr. Seuss-themed free-book box from Cape Charles yard (easternshorepost.com) — A beloved Dr. Seuss-themed free-book box was stolen from Mark Usry’s yard on Strawberry Street in Cape Charles, where children regularly picked out free books. Usry, who spends hundreds each year stocking the box, has reported the theft to police and is asking residents to watch for the distinctive Cat in the Hat–decorated structure. He says taking books is fine, but taking the box crosses the line.
   

• SailFest Cape Charles™ Set to Bring Maritime Fun to Town June 19-21 (capecharlesvirginiascape.com) — Cape Charles is getting ready to host SailFest June 19–21, bringing four tall ships, live music, kids’ activities, and fireworks to the town’s deepwater harbor. Residents can tour the ships, enjoy historical talks and concerts, and coordinate plans using the online schedule. On-site parking is paid, and local groups are adding Juneteenth and concert events around the festival weekend.
   

• Local priest gathers Richmond-area students for home repairs (easternshorepost.com) — Richmond-area Episcopal youth spent four days on the Eastern Shore repairing four homes, including one in the stretch from Parksley to Cape Charles, to make them safer for elderly residents. Working with ESVA Housing Mission, they focused on fixing floors, roofs, and steps to prevent dangerous falls. Locals can support future projects or seek help through the group’s website.
