Photography In Your Own Backyard

A short list of ideas for fun days over the summer.

I wanted to talk about the summer season:

Many of us will take some time to relax and go on a vacation this summer out of town. Others will stay around the local area for a "staycation." But no matter what we are doing this summer most of us will have our cameras with us.

I wanted to gear this post toward those that are going to stay around the area over the summer.

There are so many places within a short driving distance to go for good pictures, whether it be just of the scenery or to photograph a portrait of your family, or maybe just a day out with your closest friends (I'll be doing this a lot!)

Here are some of my top picks for local places I love to photograph:

- Old Town Clifton: This is my overall favorite place to photograph. There is so much in such a small area. You have horses, train tracks (also fun), lots of woods, a park and a bunch of little stores for some shopping in between. This is one of my ideal locations to take friends to photograph! 

- Frying Pan Park: Okay now, bear with me! I have only been here once and have not been able to shoot here but it is absolutely beautiful. So much land and of course the animals! 

- Harpers Ferry: For this one, be willing to drive a little. It is about an hour or so depending on traffic, usually not much, and how fast of a driver you are, haha! Hopefully not too fast)  this is an ideal local for a family day trip. I love photographing the river and all of the land, the place is overall very relaxing and good for eating out in between! 

- Your Backyard: Seriously! Some of my favorite pictures I have taken of flowers or my friends I took in a less then five-minute walk from my house. I encourage you to go out and walk one day and see what you can find in a short walk from your doorstep.

- A Local Farmers Market: Farmers markets make such fun weekend trips. You can go for a few hours. Normally farmers markets are on the weekends. There are a variety of farms selling their produce (lots of free samples!) and local crafters selling their art. Some markets even have live entertainment. I recommend the
