VHSL State Champs Crowned

A look at all of the state champions from the state of Virginia.

The following is a list of all the champions that were crowned this past weekend during the Virginia High School League Championships and Spring Jubilee. The AAA champions were crowned on Saturday at .

Baseball: AAA- Great Bridge, AA- Northside, A Division 2- Honaker, A Division 1- Page County

Girls Lacrosse:

Boys Soccer: AAA- North Stafford, AA- Jefferson Forest, A-

Girls Soccer: AAA- McLean, AA- Broad Run, A- George Mason

Softball: AAA- Lee-Davis, AA- Briar Woods, A Divison 2- James River, A Division 1- Bath County

Boys Tennis: AAA- Deep Run, AA- Salem, A- George Mason

Girls Tennis: AAA- First Colonial, AA- Hidden Valley, A- East Rockingham

As you can see, several Northern Region teams captured first place. Langley boys lacrosse defeated 17-8 to win their third straight state title, James Madison girls lacrosse completed their perfect season by defeating Oakton 21-10, and McLean girls soccer made a second half comeback to defeat Cox 3-2. McLean's win gave them their first-ever girls soccer state championship.

The other Northern Region team competing on Championship Saturday was 's baseball team. However, they lost in the state title game to Great Bridge 5-3. The loss was the first loss of the season for the Stallions. The last loss for South County before this game came to the in the first round of the Northern Region Tournament last year when now-UVA pitcher Ryan Ashooh threw a no-hitter in the Wildcats' 1-0 victory on Friday, May 26, 2010.

And then on Sunday, in some football action the Northern Region All-Stars defeated the Northwest Region All-Stars 20-12. This was the last high school sports event of the 2010-2011 school year. Can't wait until the whistles start blowing in August for football practice and the lights come on for some Friday night high school sports action.
