Alexandria Absentee Voting Hours Extended As Super Tuesday Nears

Absentee deadlines are approaching for the March 3 Democratic presidential primary election.

ALEXANDRIA, VA — The Alexandria Voter Registration and Elections Office is extending in-person absentee voting hours ahead of Super Tuesday, when Virginia will be one of 14 states and one U.S. territory holding the Democratic presidential primary election. The election will be held on Tuesday, March 3 with polls open from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m.

In-person absentee voting happens at the Office of Voter Registration and Elections (132 N. Royal St., Suite 100, Alexandria, VA) through 5 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 29. Voting hours are 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Saturday. There are extended hours on the following days:

  • Monday, Feb. 24, 8 a.m.-8 p.m.
  • Tuesday, Feb. 25, 8 a.m.-8 p.m.
  • Wednesday, Feb. 26, 8 a.m.-8 p.m.
  • Thursday, Feb. 27, 8 a.m.-8 p.m.

Absentee voters must have a valid reason provided by the Virginia Department of Elections. An acceptable form of photo ID is required for in-person absentee voting in addition to in-person Election Day voting. A free voter ID can be obtained at the Office of Voter Registration and Elections Monday to Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Election Day from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m.

If you're applying to receive an absentee ballot by mail, the deadline to apply is 5 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 25. Find more information on the Alexandria elections website.

Virginia voters are not registered by party, so any registered voter can vote in the Democratic presidential primary. The Republican Party of Virginia will not hold a presidential primary and will instead choose delegates for the national convention.
