Alexandria Coronavirus Update: Weekly Cases, Demographic Data
Less than 100 new weekly cases were reported during numerous summer weeks, according to state data.

ALEXANDRIA, VA — In our last comprehensive update on Alexandria's coronavirus data, we looked at month-to-month changes of cases, hospitalizations and deaths. Today we're examining cases by week this summer and the latest ZIP code and demographic data. As of Monday, Aug. 24, there have been 3,270 cumulative cases, 293 hospitalizations and 61 deaths in the city.
The Virginia Department of Health provides daily counts of cases, hospitalizations, and deaths for localities under the locality tab on its COVID-19 daily dashboard. Numbers for testing, outbreaks, and demographic data are available by health district; the Alexandria health district only applies to the City of Alexandria.
To calculate week-by-week changes in cases, we compared total cases at the start of each week to the previous Sunday. In most weeks of June and July, the increases of cases were less than 100.
