Shake-up at Old Town's Majestic Cafe: Report

Chef Shannon Overmiller has left, Cathal and Meshelle Armstrong no longer have stake in eatery, Washington DC Eater reports.

There’s a shakeup at a popular King Street restaurant, according to restaurant trade publication Eater DC.

Chef Shannon Overmiller is no longer overseeing the kitchen at The Majestic Cafe, the news site reports. The last day for the restaurant under Overmiller was Saturday.

She gave notice in December, according to The Washington Post, leaving for a gig with Seasons Culinary Services. The new job offers a more regular 9 to 5, Monday through Friday schedule and not the late nights or weekends of a restaurant, she told the newspaper.

Also, Eat Good Food Group, which includes Alexandria’s power culinary couple, husband and wife Cathal and Meshelle Armstrong, are no longer involved in the business, according to Eater. They decided to cut ties with the eatery, after Overmiller announced she was leaving for the new job.

The restaurant has seen its share of celebrities dine there, including the Obama family and actor Robert Pattinson.

No news yet on who is taking over at The Majestic; a sign on the door notes it will reopen on Thursday. No one answered their phone Wednesday morning.

The Majestic was renovated by a group of investors, including Sen. Mark Warner (D-Va.) and his wife, Lisa Collis.

You’ll still be able to get Majestic’s popular coconut cake at Society Fair, an employee there said Wednesday.

Eat Good Food Group sent out this message to its customers: “As of Monday, Jan. 19, Eat Good Food Group, and Chef Shannon Overmiller will no longer be involved or represent The Majestic Cafe. Chef Overmiller will be moving to Seasons Culinary Group and the EatGood Food group is working on [its] next project slated for the city and various outposts for the gastro-market, Society Fair. We look forward to delicious new ventures and partnering up with talented people. It’s a great start to the New Year!”
