Storm Knocks Out Power Tuesday Night to Homes in Alexandria
As of early Wednesday morning, the number of homes without power was down to 130 in areas scattered around the city.

Another powerful thunderstorm has knocked out power to homes in Alexandria. Tuesday night’s thunderstorm knocked out power to more than 1,000 homes in Alexandria, on the heels of a more powerful system Saturday night that saw nearly 15,000 homes lose power.

The area was under a Severe Thunderstorm Warning from the National Weather Service Tuesday night, until about 8 p.m.
As of early Wednesday morning, the number of homes without power in Alexandria was 130, according to a Dominion Virginia outage map. More than 13,000 homes are without power across Northern Virginia early Wednesday, including 245 in Arlington and 11,480 in Fairfax County.

A lightning strike caused a fire at an apartment building in Arlington and displaced five people from four apartments.
Dominion Power suggests if your power is out:

- Stay away from downed lines and anything touching them. Always assume lines are energized. Report downed lines by calling 1-866-DOM-HELP (1-866-366-4357).
- Use generators safely. Never operate one inside your home or in an enclosed space, such as a garage.
