What's Open, Closed For Christmas 2022 In Alexandria
As Christmas falls on a weekend, various schedule changes will happen on the holiday and surrounding days.

ALEXANDRIA, VA — Christmas falls on a Sunday in 2022, so there will be various schedule changes in the surrounding week days.
City of Alexandria government will be closed Friday, Dec. 23 through Monday, Dec. 26. Other services have schedule changes on Christmas Eve, Christmas Day or surrounding days.
If you're in town on Christmas Eve, the Waterskiing Santa show will return to the waterfront. The volunteer-run show features Santa and other holiday characters braving the cold Potomac River to put on a show. The pre-show will begin at 12:30 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 24, followed by the main show at 1 p.m., viewable around Waterfront Park, 1A Prince Street.

City of Alexandria government offices: Closed Dec. 23 through Dec. 26.
Alexandria City Public Schools: Winter break is Dec. 19 to Jan. 2.
Animal Welfare League of Alexandria: Open Saturday, Dec. 24 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., and closed Sunday, Dec. 25. Adoption appointments are available here. For animal emergencies or wildlife concerns at any time, contact 703-746-4444.
Courts: The Alexandria General District Court, Juvenile and Domestic Relations District Court and Court Service Unit, will close at 12 p.m., Thursday, Dec. 22, and will remain closed Friday, Dec. 23 through Monday, Dec. 26. The Circuit Court and Clerk of Circuit Court will operate on normal hours on Thursday, Dec. 22, and will be closed Friday, Dec. 23, and Monday, Dec. 26.
DASH Bus: On Dec. 26, the fare-free DASH Bus will run on a Sunday schedule. Regular service will be provided on Dec. 25. The free King Street Trolley operates regular service daily, including holidays, every 15 minutes, from King Street Metro to Alexandria City Hall, from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. The Alexandria Transit Company administrative office will be closed between from Dec. 23 to 26. Department of Motor Vehicles: All DMV Customer Service Centers in Northern Virginia will be closed Dec. 23 through Dec. 26.
Health department: The Alexandria Health Department, the Flora Krause Casey Pharmacy, and the Teen Wellness Center at Alexandria City High School will be closed Friday, Dec. 23 to Monday, Dec. 26.
Historic Alexandria facilities: On Saturday, Dec. 24, Fort Ward Museum will be closed, and all other museums will be open for regular hours. On Dec. 26, the Freedom House Museum will be open for regular hours. All museums are closed on Christmas. For more information, visit alexandriava.gov/Historic.
Hotlines: All emergency hotlines operate 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, including holiays. This includes the Child Protective Services hotline at 703-746-5800, Domestic Violence hotline at 703-746-4911, Emergency Mental Health Services or substance use crisis hotline at 703-746-3401, Adult Protective Services hotline at 703-746-5778 or 988, and Sexual Assault Hotline at 703-683-7273.
Impound facility: The city’s impound facility for towed vehicles will be closed between Friday, Dec. 23, and Monday, Dec. 26. The impound facility is closed Saturdays and Sundays and on all observed city holidays. Fees will continue to accrue on Saturday and Sunday, but not on holidays.
Libraries: All Alexandria Library branches Dec. 23 to Dec. 26. Visit the Alexandria Library website for more information.
Metro: Metrorail will be open 7 a.m. to 1 a.m. on Dec. 24, 7 a.m. to midnight on Dec. 25 and 7 a.m. to midnight on a Sunday holiday schedule on Dec. 26. Metrobus will be on a Sunday schedule on Dec. 26.
Parking: Between Friday, Dec. 23, and Monday, Dec. 26, the Alexandria Police Department will suspend enforcing parking restrictions at metered spaces, in residential permit parking districts and in other areas with signed parking time limits. Temporary no parking areas will still be enforced. This suspension of enforcement applies only to the restrictions at legal parking spaces and does not permit parking in any location normally prohibited, such as no-parking zones, loading zones or spaces for persons with disabilities.
Post offices: Closed on Dec. 25.
Recreation, nature, and art centers: On Friday, Dec. 23 and Monday, Dec. 26, Chinquapin Park Recreation Center and Aquatics Facility, Charles Houston Recreation, and Patrick Henry Recreation Centers will be open from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., and all other City of Alexandria recreation and nature centers will be closed. All facilities will be closed on Sunday, Dec. 25. Torpedo Factory Art Center is open daily, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., but will be closed on Sunday, Dec. 25. Trash and recycling: For city collection customers, residential refuse and recycling will be collected on the regularly scheduled day during the week of Sunday, Dec. 18. Residential refuse and recycling will be delayed by one day during the week of Monday, Dec. 26. The Household Hazardous Waste & Electronics Recycling Center will be closed Dec. 24 through Dec. 26. Virginia Railway Express: There is no VRE service on Dec. 24 and 25. For more information, visit www.vre.org.
