What's Open, Closed For Thanksgiving 2022 In Alexandria
Here are the Thanksgiving and Black Friday schedule changes to expect around Alexandria, plus Turkey Trot information.

ALEXANDRIA, VA — Various closings and schedule changes will be in place for the Thanksgiving holiday in Alexandria.
City government, schools and other services will be closed on Thanksgiving, Thursday, Nov. 24 as well as Black Friday, Nov. 25. Services like transit and trash collection will be open with modified schedules.
On Thanksgiving morning, the Alexandria Turkey Trot returns as a tradition before families enjoy their Thanksgiving feasts. The five-mile race in the Del Ray neighborhood draws thousands of participants, including some of the East Coast's top elite runners. It will start at 9 a.m. at George Washington Middle School, ending at the same location. The event benefits ALIVE, which provides food and other assistance to Alexandrians in need. Below are the openings and closures to know for the Thanksgiving holiday in Alexandria:
City of Alexandria government offices: Closed Nov. 24 and 25.

Alexandria City Public Schools: All Alexandria City Public Schools will be closed Nov. 23 to 25.
Animal Welfare League of Alexandria: Closed on Nov. 24 and operating regularly by appointment on Nov. 25. To make an appointment, visit alexandriaanimals.org/Adopt-by-Appointment.For 24/7 animal emergencies or wildlife concerns, call 703-746-4444.
Courts: Alexandria Circuit Court, Clerk of Circuit Court, General District Court, Juvenile and Domestic Relations District Court and Court Service Unit, will close at noon Wednesday, November 23, and will remain closed November 24 and 25.
DASH Bus: On Nov. 24, the fare-free DASH service will operate on a Sunday schedule. On Nov. 25, DASH will operate on its regular weekday schedule. The free King Street Trolley will operate every 15 minutes from King Street Metro to Alexandria City Hall, from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. The Alexandria Transit Company administrative office will be closed Nov. 24 to 25. Department of Motor Vehicles: All DMV Customer Service Centers in Northern Virginia will be closed on Nov. 24 to 26.
Health department: The Alexandria Health Department, the Flora Krause Casey Pharmacy and the Teen Wellness Center at Alexandria City High School will close at noon on Wednesday, Nov. 23, and will remain closed Nov. 24 and 25.
Historic Alexandria: On Nov. 24, all City of Alexandria museums will be closed. All museums are closed through Nov, 27, except Alexandria Archaeology Museum, Alexandria History Museum at The Lyceum, Gadsby’s Tavern Museum and Stabler-Leadbeater Apothecary Museum, which resume normal operation on Nov. 25. Hotlines: All emergency hotlines operate 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, and are not closed during the holiday. This includes Child Protective Services hotline at 703-746-5800; Domestic Violence hotline at 703-746-4911; Emergency Mental Health Services or substance use crisis hotline at 703-746-3401; Adult Protective Services hotline at 703-746-5778 or 988; and Sexual Assault Hotline at 703-683-7273.
Impound facility: The city’s impound facility for towed vehicles will be closed Nov. 24 to 27. The impound facility is closed Saturdays and Sundays and observed city holidays. Fees accrue on Saturday and Sunday but not on holidays.
Leaf collection: There will be no leaf collection Nov. 24. Leaf collection will resume Nov. 25 and 26; however, there will be no leaf collection in the Zone 5 area on these days due to expected holiday shopping traffic. Libraries: All Alexandria Library branches will be closed Nov. 24 and 25. Visit the Alexandria Library website for more information.
Metro: Metrorail will run on a Sunday holiday schedule on Nov. 24 from 7 a.m. to midnight. On Nov. 25, Metrorail will run on a regular weekday schedule from 5 a.m. to 1 a.m. Metrobus will be on a Sunday schedule on Nov. 24.
Parking: On Nov. 24 and 25, the Alexandria Police Department will suspend enforcing parking restrictions at metered spaces, in residential permit parking districts and in other areas with signed parking time limits. Temporary no parking areas will still be enforced.
Post offices: Closed on Nov. 24.
Recreation, nature, and art centers: On Nov. 24, all City of Alexandria recreation, nature, and art centers will be closed. On Nov. 25, Chinquapin Park Recreation Center, and Aquatics Facility, Charles Houston Recreation Center and Patrick Henry Recreation Center will be open from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. and the Torpedo Factory Art Center will be open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. All other recreation and nature centers will be closed. Trash and recycling: For city collection customers, residential refuse and recycling will be collected on the regularly scheduled day during the week of Nov. 21. On Thanksgiving Day, Nov. 24 collection will begin at 6 a.m. instead of 7 a.m. The Household Hazardous Waste & Electronics Recycling Center will be open on Nov. 26.
