📰 News we're reading

1. Fairfax City Is MedVoyage's 1st U.S. Headquarters (connectionnewspapers.com) — MedVoyage Global, a Taiwan-based telehealth technology company, has chosen the Mason Enterprise Center in Fairfax City for its first U.S. headquarters, bringing new engineering, compliance, and sales jobs to 10300 Eaton Place. The firm cites Fairfax's innovation ecosystem, proximity to federal agencies, and MEC's business support as key reasons, further boosting the city's growing reputation in healthcare and emerging technologies.

2. Fairfax Council Pushes Back On 11-Story Circle Gateway Proposal (patch.com) — Fairfax City Council members are scrutinizing three major redevelopment ideas, including an 11‑story Circle Gateway project at Fairfax Circle that many say is far too tall and dense. They're also weighing a large Northfax West apartment proposal and converting the Mosby Building back to housing, balancing new homes, traffic, and loss of small-business office space before any formal applications are filed.

3. From Fairfax County to Phoenix: FCPD's Real-Time Crime Center Takes the National Stage (fcpdnews.org) — Fairfax County police are highlighting how their Real Time Crime Center and drone program are gaining national recognition while helping solve serious local cases, like an attempted abduction at Fair Oaks Mall. Residents can directly support investigations by registering their security cameras with Connect Fairfax County, giving detectives more tools to quickly find suspects and missing people.

4. Fairfax Co. transforms old 'Darth Vader' office building into affordable apartments (wtop.com) — A long-vacant "Darth Vader" office building near Fairfax County's Mosaic District is being converted into 80 fully affordable apartments, with move-ins expected in early 2027. Funded partly by federal rescue dollars and Virginia's Housing Trust Fund, the Telestar Court project targets residents earning 60 percent of area median income or less, aiming to ease Fairfax County's housing shortage and reduce long commutes.

5. Hiring sluggish in Va., with Fairfax employment down 2.1% since Trump's return to office (ffxnow.com) — Fairfax County employment has slipped 2.1% over the past year, part of a broader softening in Virginia's job market that economists say stems from weak hiring rather than mass layoffs. A new University of Virginia forecast warns the state may lose about 18,000 jobs in 2026, even as inflation and housing costs continue to edge higher.
