2 Assault Charges Filed Following Food Theft At City Restaurant

FAIRFAX CITY, VA — While attempting to arrest and Alexandria man for stealing food from a Fairfax City restaurant, City of Fairfax Police say the suspect assaulted two officers on Thursday night, according to the daily crime report.

Officers responded around 6:40 p.m., to the the Noodles & Company restaurant on 10296 Main St., for the report of a larceny that had just happened. An employee told police that a man entered the restaurant, grabbed some food that had been marked for pickup, and left the restaurant without paying.

After locating Jacob Don Coates, 21, of Alexandria, in possession of the stolen food, police say Coates became uncooperative and physically assaulted two officers. He punched one officer in the face and hit the other with his head, according to the report.

The officers arrested Coates and took him to the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center. Police charged Coates with two counts of felony assault on a law enforcement officer, one count of misdemeanor obstruction of justice, and one count of misdemeanor larceny. He is being held without bond.
