Originally opening its doors on Nov. 20, 1978, Artie's is one of the oldest restaurants in the Great American Restaurant chain, which is based in the Washington, D.C. area. Among the company's other local eateries are the Sweetwater Tavern in Merrifield and Centreville, Coastal Flats in Fairfax Corner and Tysons Corner Mall, Ozzie's in Fairfax Corner, and Mike's American in Springfield.

Rose Previte was named the 2023 Restaurateur of the Year at Sunday night's ceremony. In addition to running Compass Rose and Maydan in Washington, D.C., she opened the Eastern Mediterranean restaurant Kirby Club in Merrifield's Mosaic District in 2022.

"I'm honored to be part of this restaurant community in D.C.," Previte said, joking that she'd forced some of her team to join her on the stage to accept the award.

"Everyone that owns and runs restaurants knows that we're just here because of our teams," she said. "The few that are with me tonight and the ones that are running the restaurants while we're here, any success we've had, surviving COVID, it's because of these guys. So really, this is for them."
