FAIRFAX CITY, VA — Amit S. Hickman, a mother of three and a former PTA president at Daniels Run Elementary, says the city needs to focus on the upkeep and renovation of its schools as it moves into an age of new technologies and solar energy.

Hickman is running in the Nov. 8 general election against incumbent Carolyn S. Pitches and fellow challengers Rachel M. McQuillen, Sarah M. Kelsey, and Stacy R. Hall for the five seats on the City of Fairfax School Board.

Why are you seeking elective office?

I believe that the City of Fairfax schools are an amazing setting for children to learn and thrive and I want to be a part of continuing that tradition.

The single most pressing issue facing Fairfax City is _______, and this is what I intend to do about it.

The need to upkeep and renovate our schools as we move into an age of new technologies and solar energy.

What accomplishments in your past would you cite as evidence you can handle this job?

As former PTA president at Daniels Run Elementary, I have had the privilege of getting to be an active participant in bringing families together in a diverse learning environment. My background in education, both professionally and as a mother, puts me in the unique position to be able to relate to families of children in the city schools.
