Fairfax Church Plans To Build 10-Unit Affordable Housing Development Off Main Street
Fairfax Presbyterian Church is seeking the city's approval to build 10 affordable housing units adjacent to its Main Street property.

FAIRFAX CITY, VA — Fairfax City Board of Architectural Review will be discussing a new affordable housing project at its Wednesday night work session. Fairfax Presbyterian Church is seeking the city's approval to build a 10-unit townhouse development on its property at 10723 Main St.
In order to build the townhouse development, the city would have to approve the church's rezoning request. The land is currently zoned RH Residential High and the church is requesting that it be changed to PD-M Planned Development-Mixed Use. This would allow the church to build 10 new residential units. The BAR would also have to recommend the church's Master Development Plan to the City Council at a later meeting.
The property, which consists of two parcels covering a total of 8.25 acres, is already occupied by the church building and day care center, both of which will remain following construction. Residential neighborhoods are located to the south and west and a resource protection area is to the north. Beyond the RPA are a nursing home and medical offices.

Fairfax Presbyterian plans to build 10 three-story townhomes with brick exteriors and rooftop solar panels. The driveways with parking spaces will be located at the back of the townhomes, which will be built in two rows with the fronts of each row facing each other. This will create a central green space.
After determining whether the church's plan meets all city standards, the BAR will issue a certificate of appropriateness. Phase two of the church's proposal will include the addition of a parking lot. This will not be part of Wednesday night's presentation.
