FAIRFAX CITY, VA — A day after a Fairfax City man pointed a firearm at police officers who showed up at his house to investigate a domestic disturbance, 48-year-old Jacques LaFranz Thomas turned himself in at police headquarters on Monday, according to authorities.

Thomas was charged with domestic assault and brandishing a firearm. He was then taken to the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center, according to a police release.

Officers first arrived at Thomas' home in the 10800 block of Scott Drive around 10 p.m. on Sunday. They were responding to a complaint of a verbal and physical fight.

Despite numerous attempts by police to get Thomas to leave his home, he refused, showed a firearm and threatened the officers, according to police. The victim was able to get out of the home safely and did not need medical care.

The officers decided that the best course of action would be to use de-escalation tactics.

On Monday morning, they returned to the home with two warrants for Thomas' arrest. Before the officers could make contact with him, police saw Thomas get in his vehicle and drive away. A traffic stop was attempted, but Thomas refused to stop. Instead, he drove to police headquarters, where he was taken into custody without incident.

"I am very proud of how our officers handled this situation," said Fairfax City Police Chief Erin Schaible, in a release. "The response was executed flawlessly. The officers demonstrated patience and restraint, which diffused the situation and led to a peaceful arrest."
