Artists & Poets Event At Epicure Cafe

Nasrin Navab and Epicure Cafe Host Freedom of Expression-Freedom of the Press exhibit starting Feb. 25.

From Epicure Cafe: Instigated by Helen Frederick, the DC art community came together two years ago in solidarity with people of Iraq and the Middle East as we supported the “Al Mutanabbi Street Starts Here!” Project.

  • February 25 - March 31, 2018
  • Artist Reception and Poetry Reading
  • Saturday, March 17th, 2018, 4pm-7pm
  • Followed by Musical Performances

Al-Mutanabbi Street is Baghdad’s bookselling street that has created space for books for hundreds of years. In 2007, the street was destroyed in a car bombing. Although no one took responsibility, it felt like a direct attack upon this freedom of thought, this essential humanism. In response, San Francisco bookseller and poet Beau Beausoleil launched the “Al-Mutanabbi Street Starts Here!”, a project that stands with the people of Iraq and speaks for freedom of expression and freedom of the press.

This Spring, we come together as a community, in an intergenerational and cross-cultural continuation of AMSSH project in the form of an art and poetry exhibition. Join us as we share our stories, our vision, our fears and our hopes for the world and generations to come.
