Bike Chain Beating, Assault on Cop Leads to Arrest in Fairfax: Police

After the attack on a teen, suspect hid in bushes and then assaulted a K9 officer, according to Fairfax Police.

FAIRFAX, VA — A Fairfax man who beat a teenager with a bike chain and then assaulted an officer who found him hiding in nearby bushes in the 9700 block of Beech Drive was arrested Monday night, according to Fairfax Police.

Avery John Brooks Thomas, 26, of the 4400 block of San Carlos Drive, was charged with malicious wounding and assault on a police officer.

Shortly after 6:30 p.m., a 19-year-old Fairfax man reported to police he had been assaulted with a bike chain. With an assist from a Fairfax County K9 officer, Thomas was found hiding in nearby bushes, after which he assaulted the officer before being detained.

The victim was taken to an area hospital for treatment of his non life-threatening injuries.
