Burning Garbage Truck Extinguished Near Fair Oaks Mall
Westbound Route 50 was temporarily closed in Fair Oaks Tuesday as Fairfax County Fire and Rescue crews extinguished a burning garbage truck.

FAIR OAKS, VA — Fairfax County Fire and Rescue we on the scene of a garbage truck fire on westbound Route 50 near South Penderbrook Drive and the ramp to Fair Oaks Mall, according to a post on the department's X account.
Crews extinguished burning trash that had been dumped onto the road to keep the flames from spreading. No injuries were reported and the right lanes were closed as crews cleaned up.
Around 2 p.m., a VDOT traffic camera showed that vehicles were getting in the westbound lanes as crews continued to clear the scene of debris.

Access to the Fair Oaks Shopping Center via a westbound ramp was blocked by fire and rescue equipment.
