Join professional textile conservators at Woodlawn for a unique, hands-on preservation workshop!
From Quilts to Keepsakes opens with a 45-minute presentation by RB Textile Conservation exploring expert conservation strategies and a behind-the-scenes look at the preservation of Woodlawn’s own Quaker signature quilt. Then, attendees are invited to apply these expert techniques to their own history. Bring a small- to medium-sized personal textile and learn museum-approved handling, folding, and packing methods. You will leave with the confidence and materials to safeguard your family heirlooms for generations!

About the speakers:
Rebecca Beyth Stern is the founder and conservator at RB Textile Conservation. Stern previously worked at the US Holocaust Memorial Museum, Cooper Hewitt, Smithsonian Design Museum and The Metropolitan Museum of Art. Stern holds a master’s degree in textile conservation from The Fashion Institute of Technology and a bachelor's degree in art conservation from The University of Delaware. She is a Professional Member of AIC. Recent notable projects include a Ruth Bader Ginsberg Judicial Robe, a Playboy Bunny assemble, several textiles from the Thomas Edison National Historic Park, NPS and several textiles for the 250th Celebrations at the Smithsonian Institution.
Kayla Silvia-Winokurzew currently serves as an Assistant Conservator at RB Textile Conservation. She holds a B.A. in Anthropology and a B.S. in Art with a concentration in Art History, alongside minors in Chemistry and Apparel & Textiles, all from the State University of New York at Oneonta. She earned a MPhil in Textile Conservation from the Centre for Textile Conservation at the University of Glasgow in Scotland. Throughout her career, Kayla has refined her skills at institutions and private practices, including the Smithsonian’s National Air and Space Museum, Knole Conservation Studio, and her own practice Sewn & Woven Conservation.
Isabella Moritz-Lee currently serves as an Assistant Conservator at RB Textile Conservation. She holds a MA in Fashion and Textile Studies: History, Theory, Museum Practice with a specialty in Conservation from the Fashion Institute of Technology. She earned her BA in Art History, along with minors in French and Anthropology from Roanoke College. Since completing her MA, Isabella has developed her conservation and mounting skills at various institutions and private practices, including Past Crafts Textiles, Caring for Textiles, the Daughters of the American Revolution Museum, the Fralin Museum of Art at UVA, and ELY Inc., in addition to maintaining her own studio.
