Fairfax City residents, businesses and friends have many opportunities to help families in need and spread holiday joy by participating in local charitable-giving programs.

- Make a Fairfax teacher's day with Mac & Cheese and Masks. A $15 donation delivers a special package delivered to a Fairfax teacher: a N95 mask and gourmet macaroni and cheese. Sponsored by The City of Fairfax Schools and the City of Fairfax Professional Firefighters & Paramedics #IAFF Local 2702. Donations are accepted through December 31.
- Be a part of the 2020 Sherwood Center Giving Tree. There are numerous ways you can help Fairfax City families have a brighter holiday. Sponsored by the Parks & Recreation Department and City of Fairfax Schools. Click here for information.
- Donate books to the Connected Care program, which supports many families in Fairfax City who may not have access to books during the pandemic because their school library is closed or has limited access. Our goal is to have a small library at our site that children can borrow books from to read. Here's how you can help:

- No-contact drop-off book donations box at the Green Acres Center, 4401 Sideburn Road.
- Information: email connectedcare@fairfaxva.gov , or visit fairfaxva.gov/connectedcare and click on "donations.".
- Contribute toward the Connect Care Scholarship and Donation Fund, providing child care for families in need during the COVID-19 pandemic. The program is scheduled to continue into 2021. Click here for information on the fund and donation opportunities.
- Drop off new, unwrapped toys for Toys for Tots through December 14 in the designated box in the City Hall Atrium. Sponsored by the City of Fairfax Fire Department. Information: 703-385-7940.
- Drop off new, unwrapped toys for Santa’s Ride by December 7 in the City Hall Atrium. Sponsored by the City of Fairfax Police Department and numerous other local public safety agencies. Information: 703-385-7866.
- A Place to Eat, a non-profit organization featured in the November Cityscene, accepts monetary and shelf-stable food donations year-round. Information: aplacetostand.org .
- Britepaths, a Fairfax non-profit organization that has partnered with the city Parks & Recreation Department on numerous occasions, accepts financial support and gift cards as part of its Holiday Program. Click here for information.
