Work on this project began in 2018 when the city engaged a consulting engineer to develop a concept plan, and the city received $21M in NVTA funding in 2019 for this project. The city has since started preliminary work to identify existing conditions and key areas to address on the corridor. The city is now re-launching the design process for this project, and the open house will re-engage the public early in this new stage of development.

The concept planning suggested that the project focuses on spot widening; implementing multimodal features to improve walking, biking, and access to bus stops; and consolidating driveways where possible.

Jermantown Road provides key local access (residential, school, & commercial locations) and connections to Fairfax County. Current conditions are challenging for some users, and accommodating future growth and changes will require improvements.

On May 9, Mayor and City Council are scheduled to hold a work session on the project with the Transportation Division. This work session will review the work that has been done and discuss priorities for the project going forward. Visit the Meetings page to download related documents and information, and watch the work session on cable Channel 12 and livestreamed on the city website. The meeting also will be archived for public viewing.
