The police department’s effort to transition to a green fleet is part of a larger City Council vision of environmental stewardship; to strengthen environmentally sustainable practices in city policies and operations. Introducing four new hybrid vehicles to the police fleet gets the city one step closer to meeting the long-term goal of reducing greenhouse gas emissions.
Energy efficiency is an important component of the city’s 2035 Comprehensive Plan: to achieve a 30% reduction in energy use by 2035 and an additional 10% reduction by 2050 from 2018 baseline levels. Transportation and vehicles are the largest greenhouse gas emissions contributors in the region and a leading cause of air and noise pollution.
The new hybrid vehicles are an example of the many efforts underway in Fairfax City to meet the city’s sustainability and energy efficiency goals in its operations. Switching to hybrid vehicles provides many benefits to the police department, including:
Better for the Environment
Efficient Police Operations
Ongoing Fuel Efficiency and Maintenance
