The commission has launched the Language Arts 123 Competition, inviting youngsters in fourth and fifth grades, high school juniors and seniors, and adults to create an essay or story on specific COVID-19 related topics.

Writers will be judged in these age groups for fiction and non-fiction entries, and winners will receive cash prizes.

The topics — coping with isolation and reflecting on social media use during the pandemic — are particularly pertinent, as the competition's original launch date in 2020 was delayed due to the pandemic.

If you live, work, or attend school in Fairfax City, you may be eligible.

Don’t delay: submissions are due by March 31. Click here for more information.
