David L. Meyer to be Sworn in Tuesday as New Mayor in Fairfax
In this week's special election, Meyer easily turned back challengers Michael J. DeMarco and Eleanor D. "Ellie" Schmidt; now, vacant seat.

FAIRFAX, VA — New Fairfax Mayor David L. Meyer will be sworn in next Tuesday, according to city officials.
Meyer, a fifth-term council member will be ceremonially sworn in at 7 p.m. immediately before a council work meeting and work session.
Before that, the public is invited to a mayoral reception at 6 p.m. in the City Hall Atrium.

In Tuesday's special election, Meyer easily turned back challengers Michael J. DeMarco and Eleanor D. "Ellie" Schmidt.
Meyer won 42.14 percent of the vote, compared to 30.5 for Schmidt and 24.17 for DeMarco, according to the Virginia Department of Elections.

Also next Tuesday, talks will be held about choosing a date for an election to replace Meyer's seat.
Meyer has lived in the city since 1981.
Steven Stombres has been the acting mayor following the arrest of then-mayor Scott Silverthorne last August on sex-for-meth charges.
