Fairfax City Election Results: Voters Pick Next Mayor

David L. Meyer turned back challengers Michael J. DeMarco and Eleanor D. "Ellie" Schmidt Tuesday in the Fairfax mayoral special election.

FAIRFAX, VA — Fifth-term council member David L. Meyer won the special election for city mayor Tuesday night, turning back challengers Michael J. DeMarco and Eleanor D. "Ellie" Schmidt.

Meyer won 42.14 percent of the vote, compared to 30.5 for Schmidt and 24.17 for DeMarco, according to the Virginia Department of Elections.

Meyer received 1,694 votes, Schmidt 1,190, DeMarco 943 and 124 write-ins.

Meyer has lived in the city since 1981.

Steven Stombres has been the acting mayor following the arrest of then-mayor Scott Silverthorne last August on sex-for-meth charges.
