Domestic Assault Charge Against Fairfax Man In Shooting Incident

FAIRFAX, VA — Fairfax County Police arrested a local man Friday in connection with a domestic assault that occurred in the area of the Katherine Hanley Family Shelter, according to a police spokesman.

Officers were dispatched around 12:28 p.m., to the 12900 block of Katherine Hanley Court for the report of a man discharging a firearm outside. Witnesses told police they saw a man and a woman enter a nearby home.

Police requested the couple leave the home, but they were unable to make contact. FCPD's Special Operations Division arrived on the scene and tried several times to contact the couple. Eventually, they were successful in getting the man and women to exit the home unharmed.

FCPD arrested James Lavender, 33, of Fairfax, and charged him with displaying a firearm, reckless discharge, possession of a firearm on certain property, and domestic assault.
