Education Career Fair Wednesday at George Mason University

The public is invited to attend an Education Career Fair featuring more than 50 employers from Virginia, Maryland and Washington, D.C. The fair will be hosted by George Mason University Career Services from 9 to 11:30 a.m., Wednesday, March 19, in Dewberry Hall at the Johnson Center on the Fairfax Campus.

Registration online is open to the public, Mason undergraduates, graduate students or graduates.

Among the major employers scheduled to participate in the fair: Virginia, Maryland and Washington, D.C public school systems, preschools, charter schools, private schools, tutoring services, special education centers and international organizations. They’re hoping to fill a wide range of positions, including teachers; specialists in many subjects such as consumer sciences and foreign languages; classroom aides; library media specialists; counselors, coaches and administrators.

To make the best impression and maximize the chances of being invited for an interview later the same day (on site) between noon to 4 p.m., career fair attendees are encouraged to prepare by:

• Dressing professionally.
• Researching employers.
• Developing a basic, “personal pitch” to communicate skills and interests to employers.
• Bringing several copies of resumes.

Employers will schedule same-day interviews based on a job applicant's interest, demonstrated skills, personality and perceived fit with the employer. 

“This event offers valuable practice in talking with employers," says Christine Cruzvergara, director of George Mason University Career Services. "It is also an excellent opportunity to ask about the skills and qualifications required by many different education employers.”
