Elderly Man Busted For Shoplifting Chainsaw In Fairfax: Police

An elderly man was arrested Monday after trying to steal a chainsaw from a Home Depot in Fairfax, according to Fairfax Police.

FAIRFAX, VA — An elderly man was arrested Monday after trying to steal a chainsaw from the Home Depot at 3201 Old Lee Highway, according to Fairfax Police. Cemel Cardak, 71, of the 10200 block of Dale Drive in Fairfax, was charged with grand larceny. He was released on personal recognizance.

Shortly after 1 p.m., a security guard reported seeing a man place a chainsaw in a shopping cart. Nothing nefarious about that. But then Cardak coolly left the store without paying for it. That's when he immediately was detained. Also in Tuesday's Fairfax Police crime report:

3800 Block of Wilcoxson Drive – On December 4 at 1:42 PM the resident reported that sometime between November 17 and November 20 unknown person(s) had stolen an iPhone from a package which had been delivered to the front porch of the home.
