Fairfax City Fire Department Awarded Mission: Lifeline EMS Recognition — Gold Plus Award

The American Heart Association has awarded the City of Fairfax Fire Department the Mission: Lifeline EMS Recognition – Gold Plus Award, which showcases emergency medical service organizations nationwide for excellent STEMI (heart attack) care. Gold Plus is the highest level of recognition for this award.

This award recognizes pre-hospital agencies that achieve, or exceed, industry “best practices” for cardiac care during a two-year period. This collective, cooperative effort with regional cardiac centers ensures residents receive the best care to improve the likelihood of a positive patient outcome.

Pre-hospital personnel are the first providers of care to patients suffering from cardiac emergencies. EMS care is crucial and often sets the course for the patient's outcome.

By adopting industry best practices, the city improves patient outcomes, continuously evaluates current performances, and makes consistent effort to improve performance. Ultimately, this ensures the city continues to deliver the highest quality care for patients suffering heart attacks — and increases a patient’s chance of their survival and continuation of their quality of life.
