FAIRFAX CITY, VA — Fairfax City Mayor Catherine Read was sworn-in Thursday as the city's representative to the Northern Virginia Transportation Commission.

Providence District Supervisor Dalia Palchik, who was sworn-in as NVTC's chairwoman on Jan. 5, administered the oath to Read prior to the commission's Thursday night meeting.

Read was elected last November, becoming the city's first woman to serve as mayor. She succeeds former Mayor David Meyer as a member of the commission. Meyer served on the NVTC for more than eight years.
