Fairfax College Student Travels To Malaysia During Spring Break

FAIRFAX, VA — Madison Shand of Fairfax was part of a group of Shenandoah University students, faculty and staff to travel to Malaysia recently as part of the school's Global Citizen Project, according to a Merit News release.

Doing the weeklong trip, the SU group traveled to Kuala Lumpur, the Cameron Highlands and Cherating. Members of the group had a chance to visit the Batu Cave and the International Islamic University Malaysia, a tea plantation and a museum. The trip also included a visit to cat, turtle and elephant sanctuaries, a mangrove river cruise and a meeting with an assistant to Malaysia's prime minister.

Since 2005, about 1,000 members of the SU community have traveled to 68 countries as part of the the Global Citizenship Project. After going through an application process, a committee chooses which students, faculty, staff and trustees will be traveling during spring break as part of the project.
