Fairfax Health District COVID-19 Vaccine Registration Now Open For Public Transit Workers And Mail Carriers

Beginning March 23, individuals who live or work the Fairfax Health District that fall into the following categories are now eligible to register to get a COVID-19 vaccine:

- Public transit workers (does not include airline workers, such as pilots, flight crews and ground crews)
- Mail carriers

These are the next two priority groups of frontline essential workers in Phase 1b as outlined by the Virginia Department of Health (VDH).

The Fairfax Health District is now accepting registrations for the first eight categories on this list:
- Police, fire, and hazmat (currently eligible)
- Corrections and homeless shelter workers (currently eligible)
- Childcare/K-12 Teachers or Staff (currently eligible)
- Food and Agriculture (currently eligible)
- Manufacturing (currently eligible)
- Grocery store workers (currently eligible)
- Public transit workers (currently eligible)
- Mail carriers (USPS and private) (currently eligible)
- Officials needed to maintain continuity of government
- Clergy/Faith leaders
- Janitorial/Cleaning staff
The Fairfax Health District is opening these categories because the vaccine supply is increasing, and are moving through the current waitlist at a faster pace. The Fairfax Health District expects to move into Phase 1c by mid-April and move into Phase 2 by May 1 in accordance with VDH guidance.
Employees should be prepared to show some form of work-related identification or pay stub as the vaccine appointment could be offered by one of our vaccine partners that may require ID.
As a reminder, Fairfax Health District is not participating in the statewide registration system at this time. Please register on the Fairfax Health District website.
Public Transit Workers
According to the CDC, the following categories are included in the Public Transit Workers priority group:
- Interurban and rural bus transportation
- School and employee bus transportation
- Special needs transportation
- Urban transit systems
The Virginia Department of Health has also approved these categories:
- Bus drivers
- Rideshare drivers
Mail Carriers
This category includes both United States Postal Service carriers and private companies (such as Amazon, UPS, FedEx, etc.).
