Fairfax HS Spring Production 'Something Rotten' Debuts April 30
Nearly 80 Fairfax High School students are involved in the spring musical, which runs April 30 to May 9.
FAIRAX CITY, VA — Fairfax High School will bring “Something Rotten” to the stage this spring, with nearly 80 students involved in the production and seven performances scheduled across two weekends. The school’s spring musical will run from Thursday, April 30, through Saturday, May 9, according to information released about the show.
The comedic musical follows two brothers living at the same time as Shakespeare but struggling to find success of their own. After a soothsayer suggests they create a play in which actors sing rather than speak, the story turns into a series of misunderstandings. The show first opened on Broadway in 2015 and received 10 Tony nominations.
Fairfax High School’s production is expected to feature large ensemble dance numbers, farcical comedy and a mix of Shakespeare-era theater with contemporary musical styles. Chris Whitney, Fairfax High School’s theatre director, said the production is designed to connect with audiences through both its comedy and the work students have put into it.

“Audiences will love the energy, the clever comedy, and the incredible music,” Whitney said. “But more than anything, they’ll connect with the passion and pure joy these students bring to the stage from start to finish.”
Tickets go on sale April 1 and cost $15, or $10 for students. They will be available through www.fxplayers.org and can also be purchased at the Fairfax High School box office on show dates. Group discounts are available for purchases of 10 or more tickets.

The school is also offering Playbill ads priced from $30 to $210 through April 9. Additional information about the production, tickets and advertising is available on the FX Players website.
The musical will mark one of the school’s larger spring productions, with dozens of students participating onstage and behind the scenes. For Fairfax families and community members, the two-weekend run offers multiple chances to see the student cast perform before the production closes May 9.
