Fake Parking Violation Notices Left On Cars In Fairfax City
Some Fairfax City residents have contacted the police about fraudulent parking violation notices being left on their vehicles.

FAIRFAX CITY, VA — City of Fairfax Police are warning residents to be on the lookout for fraudulent parking violation notices being left on the windshields of some vehicles parked in the city, according to a post on the department's official Twitter account. The notices are fake and can be ignored.
The notice, which includes a black and white image of the city seal at the top, states that the parked vehicle is in violation of a designated residential permit parking district (RPPD).
Below that, in bold letters, it says: "This is your second warning since the rezoning of Fairfax City parking districts on Feb. 1, 2021."

At the bottom of the notice, the name of "David Ferguson" is stamped in bold letters. Information under the city seal identifies Ferguson as the director of the city's Residential Permit Parking Department. It even says where his office is located in City Hall and a phone number where he can be reached.
The only problem is that there is no such department in the city. The only "David Ferguson" who shows up when you do a search on the city's website is a Civil War veteran buried in Fairfax Cemetery.

"The police department does not have a Residential Permit Parking Department," said Sgt. Brock Rutter, a spokesman with the city police. "We do have parking enforcement officers who check for various violations in residential areas though. I can confirm, David Ferguson is a false name and nobody by that name works for the City of Fairfax."
