Fairfax Man Fatally Injured In Jan. 8 Pedestrian-Involved Crash Near Government Center
A 22-year-old Fairfax man died from injuries he suffered Jan. 8 in a pedestrian-involved crash near the Fairfax County Government Center.

FAIRFAX, VA — A 22-year-old Fairfax man died from injuries he suffered when he was struck by a car as he was crossing Lee Highway near the Fairfax County Government Center on Jan. 8, according to a Fairfax County Police Department release.
Detectives from FCPD's Crash Reconstruction Unit determined that a 2004 Toyota Sienna heading eastbound on Lee Highway struck Joel Gonzalez shortly before midnight as was crossing the roadway at Forum Drive. Police say the Toyota had entered the Forum Drive intersection on green light when it struck Gonzalez, who was not in the crosswalk.
Rescue personnel transported Gonzalez to a nearby hospital for treatment, but he later succumbed to his injuries. A preliminary investigation determined that speed and alcohol appeared not to be factors in the crash.
