George Mason University Salaries 2015: Report
The Richmond Times-Dispatch obtained state employees' names, job titles and salaries using Virginia's Freedom of Information statute.

FAIRFAX, VA — Inasmuch that George Mason University is based in one of the more wealthy locales in the Commonwealth, with accompanying cost-of-living considerations, many GMU employees have commiserate salaries.
The Richmond Times-Dispatch obtained state employees’ names, job titles and salaries using Virginia's Freedom of Information statute, and George Mason is included.
According to figures obtained by the newspaper, GMU has average salaries of $75,170.

For comparison, in Blacksburg, where the cost of living isn't nearly as steep, Virginia Tech has average salaries of $67,590.
The highest-paid George Mason University employee is President Angel Cabrera at $664,881, although Tech President Timothy Sands is a bit higher at $717,500.

George Mason had 4,024 employees and a total payroll of $320, 483, 117 in 2015.
Among selected other Virginia schools:
- The University of Virginia in Charlottesville had 7,474 employees with an average salary of $79,209. President Teresa Sullivan made $733.800.
- The University of Mary Washington in Fredericksburg had 714 employees with an average salary of $59.278. President Richard Hurley made $442,424.
- James Madison University in Harrisonburg had 2, 921 employees with an average salary of $58,809. President Jonathan Alger made $493,882.
- Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond had 5,889 employees with an average salary of $70,789. President Michael Rao made $900, 940.
- The College of William & Mary had 2,192 employees with an average salary of $69,954. President W. Taylor Reveley made $520,000.
- Old Dominion University in Norfolk had 2,473 employees with an average salary of $65,892. President John Broderick made $533,799.
