Stuff The Bus: Help Restock Food Pantry Shelves And Donate Blankets For Afghan Refugees
Saturday's Stuff the Bus event at Van Dyck Park offers chance to restock Fairfax food pantries and donate blankets for Afghan refugees.
FAIRFAX CITY, VA — City of Fairfax residents looking for a way to help fill the shelves at local food pantries and assist Afghan refugees can participate in this Saturday's Stuff the Bus event.
In partnership with Fairfax County, the city's Human Services Department will be accepting donations of non-perishable food from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., on Saturday at Van Dyck Park, which is located at 3720 Old Lee Highway in Fairfax.
In addition, the city's Commission for Women will be accepting donations of new bed blankets for Afghan refugees.

Monetary donations for food pantries in Fairfax County can be made online.
The following food items are particularly needed:

- Canned tuna, salmon or chicken (15 ounces or smaller)
- Soup - lower sodium (19 ounces or smaller)
- Canned pasta (16 ounces or smaller)
- Macaroni and cheese
- Canned fruit in light syrup or juice (20 ounces or smaller)
- Peanut butter (40 ounces of smaller)
- Jelly (32 ounces or smaller)
- Bag (dry) beans, peas or lentils (16 ounces)
- Rice - brown or white (5 pounds or smaller)
- Instant potatoes (16 ounces or smaller)
- Canned tomatoes - low sodium, no salt added (29 ounces or smaller)
- Pancake mix (32 ounces or smaller) and syrup
- Hot and cold cereal (42 ounces or smaller)
- Canned vegetables - low sodium, no salt added (29 ounces or smaller)
- Canned beans or peas (29 ounces or smaller)
- Healthy snacks, such as raisins or granola bars
